hello,
my great-grandparents emigrated to the usa from croatia. i have always been interested in my croatian heritage, and am particularly interested in learning croatian.
is anyone aware of any possibilities available for someone to learn croatian in the chicago area?
thanks!

Re: Croatian language
Tue, December 20, 2005 - 10:45 AMi can't say anything to the possibilities in the chicago area, but for a start, pick up the pimsleur conversational cd's. they are really good for beginning the language and getting a good feel of it structurally and conversationally.

I don't know about classes in the Chicago area but I do know that a good bet is to check out the Croatian church(es)...they usually have language classes!
Good luck! -

Tue, January 3, 2006 - 3:14 PMYou may also want to check out the linguistics department of a university. I friend of mine introduced me to a grad student that is doing her thesis on Bosnian-Serbo-Croatian (the new politically correct term). You may be willing to find a kind soul that that will include your education into their thesis. I know it sounds like a long shot, but that's the offer I got!
