My grandmother (from Pag) made two dishes I loved. One was called 'frite' and the other was green peppers stuffed with shredded cabbage and pickled in a brine. We don't have the recipes. Is anyone familiar with them?

    Stuffed Hot or Banana Peppers:

Remove top and seeds from peppers. Wash thoroughly. Cut cabbage as for cole-slaw, season with salt and pepper and a few sprinkles of oil. Mix well. Fill the peppers with the cabbage and arrange in quart or half gallon canning jars. Make a bring of vinegar and water using equal portions of both. Fill each jar with the brine, add 1tsp. salt to a quart, or 1tbsp. salt to a half-gallon and seal. A clove of garlic may be placed in each jar if desired. (compliments of Mrs. George Bradach, Indiana- from my grandmothers cookbook)

It's my understanding that Frites are simply twice fried potato strips (aka french fries, but fried twice). The dipping/soaking sauces are what change depending upon region and family.
